Melanie L. Sattler P.E.
Syed Qasim Endowed Professor of Civil Engineering
Dr. Melanie Sattler, Syed Qasim Endowed Professor of Civil Engineering, conducts research and teaches courses related to sustainable energy, sustainable engineering, and air quality. Her current research focus is mitigating landfill air emissions and use of landfill gas for energy, including applications in both developed and developing countries.
In her 12 years at UT Arlington, she has served as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator for over 20 projects, worth over $2 million collectively. Her research has been sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and National Science Foundation, among others. She and her students have published over 100 peer-reviewed journal and conference proceeding papers.
Dr. Sattler oversees UT Arlington’s Sustainable Engineering Minor. Her classes often include service learning projects, with a particular emphasis on global projects in developing countries.
Dr. Sattler received her Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a registered professional engineer in the State of Texas.
