Behavior change—for example, making it second nature to place a plastic bottle in a recycling bin rather than a waste bin—is the greatest key to successfully meeting our environmental reduction goals. Behavior change requires ongoing education, administration and outreach, support, feedback, and recognition to be successful. Reaching out to such a large and diverse university population is challenging. Behavior change is a continuous effort undertaken as part of Administration & Outreach efforts to get the sustainability message out to students, faculty, staff, and the Dallas-Fort Worth community through the following key efforts:
This Sustainability Website is the primary source of academic initiatives, news, events, and projects.
Maverick Office Green Team program is a coordinated, collaborative effort to meet higher environmental standards for office practices. The program includes extended initiatives in reducing, recycling and reusing, energy conservation, purchasing, and more.
Our Facebook Group offers weekly news items, tips, campus events, volunteer opportunities, and breaking news on sustainability.
Including employee e-newsletter MavWire, student e-newsletter TrailBlazer, student newspaper The Shorthorn, UTA News (television newscast), and UTA Radio
Including City of Arlington’s EcoFest, Recyclemania, The Big Event, Celebrating People & Planet Earth Day festival, e-waste collection day every quarter, mavs move-in day, and other events and activities in collaboration with other departments on campus.
Behind-the-scenes work in projects like the North Central Texas Climate Summit, summer air quality watch, HUB vendor fairs, TXU tree planting on campus, Earth Hour, and more
The communications work group partners with the PSC co-chairs and other work groups to respond to requests for public speakers for events and meetings both on and off campus.
