Earth Month Events: April 2022

Earth Month 2022 Events at UTA:

Earth Month is coming up and there are many ways to celebrate and honor the planet this month. Here are just a few ways:

Vote Yes on the Green Fund 
April 4 and 5 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Make a concrete plan now to vote in the Student Campus Elections and vote yes on the Green Fund. Voting will be at the University Center in the Art Gallery (Rm. 106)

Bounty of Nature: Sew Sustainable
April 14 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
Learn how to reduce clothing waste and bring new life into your clothes with the UTA Libraries‘ Sew Sustainable class. Learn more and RSVP here.

Electronic Waste Recycling Drive
April 14 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Drop off your electronic waste at the Electronic Waste Recycling drive for UTA students and employees. Please bring over all of the electronic waste you have like batteries, empty printer cartridges, computers, and other electronics. This event is not for UTA Assets. Learn more here.

Trinity River Audubon Blackland Prairie Restoration Volunteer Event
April 16 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
The Environmental Science Club is partnering with a few local environmental groups for a restoration event where they will be helping to plant native milkweeds at the Trinity River Audubon Center so that wildlife teams can begin restoring Texas-native prairie grasslands! The Office of Sustainability will be hosting it’s annual Earth Day Fair on April 20, 2022 on UC Mall from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Stop by for activities, prize, arts, and crafts, and so much more!

Free Thrift Shop with Maverick Pantry
The Maverick Pantry will be working with the Office of Sustainability to host a free thrift pop-up where you can “shop” for some of the clothes and household items that can use a second chance. We will also be accepting gently used clothing and household items and drop off locations around campus. Learn more about the thrift shop here.

Herb Planting
Plant your own herbs to grow at home at the Mavs Go Green‘s table.

Bounty of Nature: Planting from Scraps & Grabbing Some Greens
Stop by the UTA Libraries table to learn how to plant from food scraps to by taking your own food waste and growing more food. The Libraries will also be giving away free edible plants. Learn more here.

Earth Day Shirts
Come get your very own official UTA Earth Day T-shirt until supplies last. Only $10 with proceeds benefiting sustainability programming.

Recycling Trivia and Free Sustainable Swag
Show off your recycling skills and knowledge at the Eco-Reps table for the chance to win many different sustainable prizes like plant kits, water bottles, reusable cutlery sets, totes, and so much more!

 

 

 

 

 

Bounty of Nature: Composting Class
April 21 
The UTA Libraries are going to have a composting class where you can learn how to make your own worm composting bin. More details to come

Fort Worth Arbor Day ACC Tree-Planting Volunteer Event
April 22 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Join the Environmental Science Club for this big tree planting event at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens for Arbor Day. Partnering with ACC and a few environmental groups. Learn more and RSVP here.

Randol Mill Park Clean up
April 23 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
The UTA College of Science (COS), The Arlington Conservation Council (ACC), and the Neighbors of Randol Mill Park (NORMP) are sponsoring an Earth Day celebration at Randol Mill Park (1901 W Randol Mill Rd, Arlington, TX) on Saturday, April 23, to cap the College’s Science Week. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. on the day of the event, with an early Birding Walk provided prior to assigned work taking place from 9 a.m. to noon. Sign up here.
